Have you tried saving it to your hard drive and then double-clicking it?

Yes, I have, but I'm not sure which application to use to open the VCS
file. When I assigned Outlook to it, the file opened as an attachment
to an email!!

Any further thoughts?
Many thanks

Do you have Outlook listed as your default Calendar program in Control Panel
| Internet Options | Programs tab?

If opening it directly doesn't work, you should be able to simply import the
VCS file. In Outlook, go to File | Import and Export | Import an iCalendar
or vCalendar file, and follow the prompts.
