how can i get remote desktop to work?

i have my laptop which is running windows vista how premium, am trying to
connect to any other computers but especially to one that has XP home, i've
been told by the pc that i need a terminal server, i looked at my services
it says it's started. although i'm not sure if i really have one, and i
can't connect pc keeps saying that it can't find terminal service please
help.

The bottom line is you can't use Remote Desktop to remotely access/control
either a XP Home machine or a Vista Home Premium machine. Neither of those
versions of Windows can act as a Remote Desktop host. Look at alternatives
like VNC (any flavor). I always recommend UltraVNC. I don't know if its been
ported to Vista though...

If the PC you want to remotely access/control is running Vista
Ultimate/Business or XP Pro/MCE then you can use Remote Desktop.
