Is there any way to temporarily disable the CLOSE button on a single
program? I am forever closing a program when I only mean to minimize
it.

Depends on the program. Some software can be forced to run with the
Close button disabled, but most cannot.

No I don`t think that is possible. You will just have to be more
careful with the mouse.
