Theoretically, you can accomplish this (though it is not recommended) by
clearing the "Make hidden markup visible when opening or saving" check box
on the Security tab of Tools | Options. Some users have reported, however,
that this does not suffice. If you do choose to do this, be very sure you
understand that the markup is still there and can be seen by anyone you send
the file to. To actually *remove* the markup you must accept (or reject) all
changes and delete all comments.

I tried unchecking that, and it has no affect on changing that drop down box
from my toolbar.
