How can I convert a Word symbol to PDF?

I have a Word doc that I want to convert to a PDF file. I have many boxes in
the document created through the "Symbols" option. The boxes are not
converting over to PDF, but in their places are question marks. Can I force
these boxes over?

Sounds like a font substitution problem. In the PDF conversion
options, did you embed the symbol font(s) you used in the Word file?

Hi, I was not aware of this option until your response. I just tried several
times in the Word doc under print option, I go to Properties, and tab for
Font Embedding. I move the SYMBOL font from "Never Embed" over to "Always
Embed". Still does not work in my final PDF doc. Am I doing something wrong?

When you use the Insert->Symbol function, you can choose to
insert special characters from any font that is installed on your
system, not just the Symbol font. I'm guessing that you inserted
a box character from some other font than the Symbol font? What
box character is not converting correctly? Are you using Adobe
Acrobat or some other PDF conversion program?

I have chose special character boxes from several of the embeded fonts
available along with the Symbol font. I have Adobe Acrobat version 5.0
(10/26/2001) Perhaps I should take the long way around and DRAW boxes and
waste time repositioning my text? I appreciate your suggestions.
