How can I change fonts just by one click?

I heard that in Word we can create a button each in the toolbar for our
favorite fonts. Then, while typing, we can switch between, say Times New
Roman and Arial, just by a single click of the desired button on the toolbar.
How can I do that?

Depends on quite what it is you want to do. You can define character or
paragraph styles that use particular fonts, then associate those styles with
toolbar buttons, so one click applies the style of your choice. You can also
set hot-keys for particular styles, which may be easier than buttons.

You could (if your macro writing is up to it) create a macro that applies a
particular font to the current paragraph or selection; but don't do this.
Once you start hard-coding style attributes you end up with a mess.

In addition to Jezebel's suggestions, you can put favorite fonts on a
toolbar via the Tools | Customize dialog. Click on the Commands panel in
the dialog, select Fonts in the left column, look for desired font in the
right column, drag the font to a spot on the toolbar.

At least, you can in MacWord, which has a different Font menu anyhow. Not
sure if this holds true in WinWord?

No. Not in Windows.
