How can I Backup the Documents and Settings directory

I'm currently running W2K Pro & want to do a fresh install of WinXP Pro. But
before I do that I thought it would be wise to save the "Document and
Settings" directory. When I tried to copy that directory, I get this error:
"There has been a sharing violation. The source or destination file may be
in use."
Is there a way around this?

Thank you for your suggestions.

The problem you seem to be having involves the "ntuser.dat" file directly in
each user's folder. the best way to get around it is to use the Windows
backup utility(start>run>type in BACKUP.EXE>ok)from there, you can use the
backup wizard to make a backup of all the files to a location on your
harddrive, which you can copy anywhere. when you install XP, you will have
to go into the backup utility again, and use the recovery wizard to restore
the files that you want to the correct location. You must use the
Administrator account for the whole backup/recovery proccess

Do this while logged on as another user.

Woops! little mistake in the posting. The backup utility is

NTBACKUP.EXE not BACKUP.EXE
