i am a sole user with 2 uac accounts: as administrator and as a user.

for some 3rd party downloads, such as apple's quick time, i needed to
install quick time separately for each account. is there a way to have one
installation used by all users? i was thinking of installing it in the
automatic-share "public folder"

When you install it as a Standard Administrator, the application will be
installed to the Program Files folder and shared with other user accounts on
the system. You don't have to do any manual configuration. The only way to
get around UAC is to disable which is not recommend. You could try running
the executable as Administrator and see if it helps. I know what you mean
though, its very annoying with the UAC prompts and it appears minimized at
times during the installation. Apple needs to fix that.

Microsoft has made that virtually impossible without
turning off the Vista "security" mess. The Vista security
model is based on the assumption that no PC is ever
anything but a workstation used by workers with very
limited rights. The public documents folder is basically
the only place that all users can read and write to!
So there's really no good way to have shared settings
under default conditions.
