How can I apply slow motion to only part of a video clip?

Is there a way to apply the slow motion effect to only part of a video clip...not the entire clip? This is for MM2. Thanks!

Just split the clip into smaller clips, then apply the
effect on the appropriate smaller clip.

When you add the clip to the collection, you can then drag it down onto the
timeline. Then, drag a second copy of the same clip down there. Then you can
grab either side and drag to trim the clip. You basically don't "split" the
clip, but rather trim one copy of it to show one sequence and trim the other
copy to show the second sequence.

timeline, and split it on the timeline.

This advice is wrong. All the OP needs to do is drag one copy to the time
line and split it into the appropriate parts, perhaps delete any unwanted
parts and then take it from there.

Good point. I missed the splitting because it doesn't seem to be on the
popup menu and I seldom look on the Clips menu. While my method will work,
John's is simpler and more direct.

So, 30 minutes after I posted the same method,
John basically repeated what I had already said,
and now it has become "John's" method...

I'll have to remember to use my crystal ball
next time I post a reply, so I can give John
full credit in advance. ;-)

BTW, not only is "your" method more complicated,
it is prone to creating a discontinuity in the
video and audio, unless you are able to trim both
copies of the clip precicely to the same frame.

So "John's" method really is the only method.
