A friend of mine just called. He has a HP 4200+ CPU (about 1 year old) and
just got a message that he needs to go to Windows Setup and use the Repair
action.

How can he do that since Windows XP was installed by HP and he does not have
the Windows XP installation disks?

a few choices:
Borrow a copy of XP that is the same version as is installed...if OEM
version borrow OEM version
Buy a copy
Contact HP to purchase the Installation Disks
Check for a Restore Partition on the HD and read the HP instructions on how
to use it..this comes with a warning ..usually a Restore partition will only
restore to a 1st purchased state...everything installed since that point
will be erased.

Your post was answered in another group.

One disadvantage of multiposting as opposed to crossposting is that you have
to check all newsgroups to which you originally posted and each one may have
a different set of answers. For example - this case.

Please check your other posting(s) for the answers i know you have been
given already.
