How can all network traffic via 1 out of 2 network adaptors?

Hi,

I've 2 network connections; i.e. 2 icons on Control Panel-> Network
connections.. Both with assigned IP of the same subnet, e.g. 10.1.1.1 and
10.1.1.2. (In fact, I'm doing some VPN stuff here, the 10.1.1.2 connection is
a virtual adaptor while 10.1.1.1 is physical addaptor. But I think whether
it is a virtual or physical adaptor or not doesn't affect my question here.
For simplicity, just treat it though they are 2 physical adaptors)

I want my network traffic to go out from a particular network connection
only e.g. all traffic goes out from 10.1.1.2 NOT 10.1.1.1.

I've heard it can be done in Windows XP but I couldn't find out the method.

If this is not achievable, how about I assign the 2 connections to 2
different IP subnets? Will it be able to assign all network traffic to the
interface I want?

thanks a lot,
jack ling

Assign a metric to each network connection, specifying a lower number
for the connection that you want all network traffic to use.

To assign a metric to a network connection:

1. Open the Network Connections folder.
2. Right click the desired connection.
3. Click Properties | Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
4. Click Properties | Advanced.
5. Un-check "Automatic metric".
6. Enter a number between 1 and 9999 for the "Interface metric".
