How can Administrator over-ride settings on other accounts

My 12 year old daughter has made her folders private and I now have no way of
checking who she is in contact with on MSN. I used to be able to check her
chat logs but after questioning her about some unsuitable content that I was
unhappy about she has now made her files private. Does anyone know how I can
have access again. I do not know her password so cannot sign into her
account.

Many thanks.

Log in as administrator and turn off her passwd and restrict
her account so she cant create password on her account.

Follow the instructions here from MVP Ramesh:

How to undo "Make this folder private" option"

Then remove your daughter's password and make her account Limited. Protect
your Administrator status doing at least Items #3-5 below:

1. Set a password in the BIOS that must be entered before booting the
operating system. Also set the Supervisor password in the BIOS so BIOS
Setup can't be entered without it.
2. From the BIOS, change the boot order to hard drive first.
3. Set strong passwords on all accounts, including the built-in
Administrator account.
4. If you leave your own account logged in, use the Windows Key + L to lock
the computer (and/or set the screensaver/power saving) when you step away
from the computer and require a password to resume.
5. Make other users Limited accounts.

If you aren't sure how to set up the computer securely, then pay a
professional to come on-site (not someone from your local BigStoreUSA) to
set you up and give you the training you need to understand the process.
This is simple and should not be very expensive.

Uninstall the chat program and/or take your daughter's computer privileges
away until she understands that *you* are the parent and *she* is the child
and she needs to comply with your rules on your computer in your house. I
think kids should be able to use instant messaging programs as long as they
understand (and obey the rules):

1. Their logs are subject to parental inspection at any time.
2. They are never to click on a link or accept a file from anyone in an
instant messaging program.

My boys are 13 and 17, so I understand your concerns as a mother. However,
please understand that these are technical responses to what is basically a
non-technical problem. This is a family/interpersonal issue that can't be
solved by technical means.

Additionally, you can take ownership of her files and folders. Then ensure that she still has adequate permissions to the folders, herself.

See Help and Support and search for "take ownership"
