How best to install Windows Vista Ultimate on a new computer

I have a brand new Dell computer right out of the box. It was purchased with
Windows Vista Basic. I have also separately purchased Windows Vista Ultimate
and I want to install it on this new computer.

What is the best approach to accomplish this task? Should I start up the
new Dell computer and have it go through its Windows Vista Basic setup then
upgrade to Vista Ultimate? Or should I start by inserting the Windows Vista
Ultimate disk and do a clean install? I prefer to keep my software
installations as simple as possible and I’m not interested in any of the Dell
“extras†that might come with the new computer.

Loren:

You should ask this question in a Vista newsgroup. This group is for Visual C++
..NET programming.

Asking about Vista installation in this .NET programming group is unlikely
to get you a lot
of help.

Try posting in an applicable group like this...

As you appear to be using a web interface:

http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx

Click the + beside your language. then scroll down to Windows. In Windows,
find the Windows Vista category . Open it and find a group for your
question.

That said, if I were doing the setup, I'd:

1. Download all the drivers for the PC from Dell.

2. Do a new, clean install of Vista Ultimate, formatting the OS partition
beforehand. (Leave the recovery partition alone!)

Why? Because that will remove all the crapware Dell installs on their PC's
and leave you with a clean setup for installing *only* the software your
want and need.
