Google is going to make www.gmail.com with one GB free email storage
and now yahoo and hotmail are fighting back
Yahoo has made its free mailbox 100mb
and in a few days hotmail will make its mailbox 250 MB plus 10 attachment
capability plus antivirus.

Woo-hoo! Now we get 248 more megabytes of spam!

You can have a white list..... to recieve emails from people that are only
on your address book. Thats what I do and I never get spam, some spam is
tranfered to my BULK MAIL folder and I take a look if there is an email from
someone important and trash the rest.

I am using outlook express to manage hotmail. If you go to the hotmail site
there are settings for deleting spam. And it will get better.... letting
less spam pass through.

I have a Hotmail account, but I gave up trying to use it long ago.
It fills up with spam so quickly, I can't empty it fast enough, or
easily enough, to make it worth trying to use for any serious
purpose. I wrote to Hotmail about span once. Waste of time. When I
realized that they encouraged the spam, and had no intention of
trying to limit it, I gave up on them. It amazes me that Hotmail
is so widely used. It is spam central for the Internet.

In hotmail options.... I use exclusive.

Junk E-Mail Filter

Choose your Junk E-Mail Filter level:

Default - obvious junk e-mail is caught.
Enhanced - most junk e-mail is caught.your Contacts, service announcements from Hotmail, and messages you have
consented to receive from MSN.

Note: At Enhanced and Exclusive levels, wanted messages are occasionally
identified as junk e-mail. Check your junk e-mail folder regularly to make
sure wanted e-mail has not been moved there.

Weird... I find Hotmail's anti-spam filter is generally pretty good.
Yahoo's filter seems to be better at avoiding false positives, but
most spam sent to my Hotmail account ends up in the junk mail folder
and few real emails do. With big mailboxes they'll have more incentive
to improve the filter, so they don't end up storing thousand of
terabytes of spam.

That said, IMHO Hotmail used to be much better before Microsoft bought
it: in particular the servers regularly seem to be overloaded, at
least in peak US time. Plus they broke it a couple of months back so
it doesn't work properly with Mozilla anymore.
