Hotmail (HTTP) email Accounts. OL 2K3 SP3

Mike

I use 1 POP and 3 (old legacy/still free) Hotmail (HTTP) email accounts.
Therefore I have 1 Outlook.pst file and 3 more linked to the Hotmail ones
which have their own expandable appearance in the 'All Mail Folders' list.

Most of the time the Send/receive synchronize function works fine.
But sometimes it will set all 3 HTTP accounts to be 1 account.
They still appear separate on the folders list but the number of unread
messages (in brackets after the account name) will be the same. Checking the
inbox of each account shows the same list of unread/read messages !

Sometimes a manual Send/Receive will set them right but if not, I have to
re-start OL.

Is this a known bug or is there a solution?

Lots has changed since I posted that ;-)

Hotmail in now part of the Live network-> Windows Live Hotmail

The MSN services are still there, just as the MSN account. Functionality of
the account depends on whether you have a @hotmail.xxx, @live.xxx or at
@msn.xxx account.

What hasn't changed is that in either case I would stop using the built-in
HTTP account type and use the Outlook Connector. That's another thing that
changed; it's now free to all.

The beast grows!

Thanks Roady.
In my case they're all @hotmail.com's.

Please explain the 'Outlook Connector' or point me to an information resource.

Yes I did Robert, thanks.
But it seem particular to 'Windows Live Hotmail'.
Will it still help me with my non-windows life hotmail situation?

Yes, it works for all those accounts.

As I'm not using any MSN Live services and before installing more stuff to
work around a minor anomaly, will it help or change anything if I change the
'HTTP Mail Service Provider' from HTTP to MSN ?

I assume Hotmail is now obsolete, having been taken over by MSN.

I already re-added the 3 Hotmail accts. set to MSN... will see how this goes
from now.

I don't follow what you are trying to say here. Hotmail is part of the MSN
network. MSN is a Microsoft brand and Hotmail is owned by Microsoft since
1997. If anything, Hotmail now falls under the Windows Live brand.

The method you are using now (HTTP via WebDAV) is obsolete and has been
replaced by the Outlook Connector (HTTP via DeltaSync). Currently WebDAV is
only being supported for backwards compatibility reasons.

Everything has bee running smoothly for the past weeks, except one occasion
OL would not remember the password for 1 of the 3 hotmail accts.
(I posted a new message about this)

It's a pity MS did not distribute the outlook connector as an automatic
update patch instead of as a separate application 'plug-in'.

Why would they? It is not security related nor performance related. It is
an optional installation that I am sure people would complain about if it
showed up on Microsoft Update.
