what is hotfix and why did it show up on add and remove
programs is this something i need or can i remove for
more disk space?

A hotfix is usually a patch for your Windows operating
system. Generally, when you perform a Windows Update, or
if Windows automatically downloads updates, they will
show in the Add/Remove Programs section as Windows
Hotfixes.

These patches are usually released to fix certain program
issues or security problems, so normally you don't want
to delete them.

Nell,
These are mainly security updates Microsoft has issued since SP1 and will be
included in SP2 when it is issued later. Leave them alone because you need
them.
