The, now notorious, hotfix, "MS03-048/KB824145" is the topic of many posts I
see in the NG's. (For those not familiar, it causes scrolling problems.) My
question is just a matter of curiosity. I make regular checks for updates
and download all "Critical" updates. I checked my log of updates and
scanned, again, for updates, I do not have that update and it is not offered
on the scan.

Not complaining mind you, just wondering why. I run an early OEM, purchased
with hardware, edition of XP. Could that be the reason I was excluded from
this hotfix?

Idle curiosity!

Sometimes the hotfix can come thru in the Auto-updates and not thru Windows
Updates.

Y.

it is listed in add/remove programs as "internet explorer"
with with standard "e" icon

Hi

You should have been offered it anyway. You can find a download link here:

C*mulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (824145)
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-048.asp

If you find that it gives you scrolling problems, you can uninstall it, and
install the previous version:

C*mulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (828750)
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-040.asp

(using C*mulative to avoid some filtering issues on the MS newsserver)

Also, as all IE updates since MS03-004 gives some problems with HTML help files,
you should also install this one to fix that:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=811630

Thanks Torgeir, I think I'll wait till the fix for the fix comes out.

Cheers, JA

Ok, but you should at least install MS03-040 (KB828750)...

The infamous 824145 does not show up in the "Windows HotFix" section of
Add/Remove.

It shows as Internet Explorer Q824145 in Add/Remove.

Thanks Gord,

I don't find a trace of it anywhere on my machine. I have gone to KB and
everywhere I can find and the only thing I come up with is a link to scan
for updates. When I scan, I come up with nothing. I searched for MS03-040
(KB828750), as Torgeir suggested and came up with the same thing. It seemed
and endless loop.

It does not show as IE Q824145 in Add/Remove either. I suppose, MS wants me
to just keep on scrolling as usual.(tongue in cheek)

It is possible that I have installed it and then removed the uninstall file
for it but, I would think it would show in the list on updates?

JAX

I found it; Is installed, why don't it effect my scrolling? (rhetorical
question)

Thanks to all, JAX
