What is the difference between a /U and /Q option when installing HOTFIXES?

Also if is the /F option moot if you use the /Z option?

Hello Carl,

The following article has a good listing of the different switches available
when installing the hotfix. It also breaks them down by operating system
where necessary.

For example:

The Windows Server 2003 versions of this security patch (including Windows
XP 64-Bit Edition, Version 2003) support the following Setup switches:
a.. /?: Show the list of installation switches.
b.. /u: Use Unattended mode.
c.. /f: Force other programs to quit when the computer shuts down.
d.. /n: Do not back up files for removal.
e.. /o: Overwrite OEM files without prompting.
f.. /z: Do not restart when the installation is complete.
g.. /q: Use Quiet mode (no user interaction).
h.. /l: List the installed hotfixes.
i.. /x: Extract the files without running Setup.
/u - Unattended mode - This does not hide what is going on from the users.
No input is necessary, but actions are visible.
/q - Quiet mode - This mode hides what is going on behind the scenes and
users are not shown any kind of display.

Yes, the /f switch would be moot if you chose not to restart when the
installation is complete.

Hope this helps!
