Hotbar? Dangerous spyware?

R

Richard Thomas

Hi,

I've recently received a few emails from my Mum which had some
animated smileys in them. When I visited her yesterday, she had some
kind of Outlook addin called Hotbar which she'd installed on Outlook,
and this provides the smileys. It's also installed itself as an extra
toolbar on IE, and opens popup ad-windows quite regularly.

Is Hotbar a safe bit of software, or is it silently logging
keys/selling email addresses to spammers?

I'm happy to leave it on there if it poses no risk, but if it's
dangerous, then it'll have to go!

TIA

Richard

I have been using Hotbar for over a year now. My ad-aware from
www.lavasoft.com and spybot from www.spybot .com do not recognize it as
spyware. It has never opened pop-ups since I had it installed.

To help with the pop-ups, go to www.toolbar.google.com and download the
google toolbar. It does not sell emails and the only use it makes of your
email is to send you a registration code.
