Hot-pluggable SATA?

The motherboard is Asus M2N-E. It uses Nvidia nForce 570 Ultra chipset.

I would like to connect a PATA hard disk drawer to a SATA port via a
PATA-SATA converter. Then I would power up the system, and insert a PATA
harddisk into the drawer, expecting it to show up as a removable disk.

Is this silly?

I doubt too many of the converters if any support hot swap properly.

No, but you need to make sure to power up/down the converter together
with the disk. Otherwise you could destroy the PATA bus driver
chips on converter and disk. If the converter is powerd dewn during
insertion and removal, this should work.

As if this would only happen to converters but not the ATA hostadapter inter-
face when a drive is inserted. Yet no one ever reported to have blown that up.

Babblebot in the extreme.
