hosts file problems

I was blocking a few sites with my hosts file, including MSN Messenger. I
tried singing into Messenger and it let me in fine, the problem is that I can
get to every site on my hosts file. I checked several web sites for tips on
what to do but haven't found the answer. Also, I restored my computer to the
previous day and everything went back to normal but after singing back into
Messenger, my hosts file stopped working again, now I have no restore points.
Any suggestions?

Thanks- javi

I did what was recommended on the link but after that I was unable to connect
to the internet, I had to reverse everything I did and was able to connect
then but the hosts file still doesn't work. I can get to every site on the
hosts file.

Can you post what you had in the HOSTS file that you made?

After you replace the Hosts file or copy a new Hosts file into the
%Systemroot%\system32\drivers\etc folder, flush the DNS Resolver cache.

Open a command prompt...
Start | Run | Type: cmd | Click OK |
At the command prompt, type:

ipconfig /flushdns

Hit the Enter key.

You should see the following message:

Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache.

Make sure that the DNS Client service running or you will see this message:

Could not flush the DNS Resolver Cache: Function failed during execution.

After I did another search on this message board, I found the solution. MSN
Messenger made a change to my registry and I just had to change it back. Next
time I will have to research harder. Thanks for your help Wesley.
