I think my homepage has been hijacked. Everytime i open the internet it takes me to the about:blank page but it has a site which has the words search for at the top of the page. I have tried entering search for on google to see if there was a way to uninstall it, and i have tried using spybot to remove it. But no success

Has anyone else had this problem and know how to fix it?

Just open your browser. Click on Tools | Internet Options
and make sure the dialog box is et to the General tab.

There's a window at the top of the dialog box that
contains the web address for your current hompage. You
can change it if you need to...

1. To change your homepage. Open Internet Explorer. Go to
to tools>>internet options. On the general tab, there in a
box to type in the URL (address) of your desired homepage.

2. Not sure I understand the second part but maybe this
will help. If a searc toolbar is what you are referring to
and you want it uninstalled, then go to start
menu>>settings>>control panel. Click on the Add/ Remove
programs icon and scroll down the list to locate a "Search
toolbar" prgram. You should be able to uninstall it from
there.

Good Luck, Shawn

I have had the same problem in the past. go here
http://www.softpedia.com/public/scripts/downloadhero/10-
17-150/ and download cwshredder and run it. it will
delete any hijack and sort out your homepage problem.

I have tried that a thousand times but it keeps on renewing it self to this search for page. I also keep getting a pop up saying that there is spy ware on my pc. I have a pop up remover but it doesn't work.

I'm really annoyed. My brother just restarted the computer from scratch a few days ago, it looks like we might have to do it again.

Anyone know anything?

Thanks Stephen.

It didn't help remove the virus but it named it for me. It's CWS.Searchx.

Does anyone know how to remove this?

Craig,

Make sure you get the most current version of CWShredder - try
MajorGeeks. Then use Spybot S&D and HijackThis.

First, download LSP-Fix and WinsockXPFIx from
<http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm>, and CWShredder from
<http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4086.html>. All are free.

Next, close all Internet Explorer and Outlook windows, then run
CWShredder. Have it fix all variants.

Now check for, and remove, spyware. Get HijackThis
<http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=3155> and Spybot S&D
<http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=download>. Both free.
1) Install and run Spybot. First update it ("Search for updates"),
then run a scan ("Check for problems"). Trust Spybot, and make all
recommended deletions.
2) Install and run HijackThis. Do NOT make any changes immediately.
Save the HJT Log.
3) Have your HJT log interpreted by experts at one or more of the
following forums (and post it here):
<http://forums.net-integration.net/>
<http://www.spywareinfo.com/forums/>
<http://forums.tomcoyote.org/>
<http://www.wilderssecurity.com/>

If removal of any spyware affects your ability to access the internet
(some spyware builds itself into the network software, and its removal
may damage your network), run LSP-Fix and / or WinsockXPFIx.

Cheers,
Chuck

Thanks Chuck! The MajorGeeks tool did the trick for me. I've been battling this problem and trying to track down a solution for about a week.

Thanks again!

Tom
