"Homeland Security warns against IE"

Mozilla and Firefox are basically the same. I tried Mozilla, which is a
full featured internet browser and email client. I didn't like it, although
it has some really great features that should have been engineered into
Internet Explorer years ago. I have never tried Opera but I understand it
is very small and very efficient.

As for Internet Explorer being a security risk, it has some issues that need
to be addressed by Microsoft if they want to compete for the future market
share they now enjoy. I wouldn't trust anything that came from the Office
of Homeland Security! They are a part of a brazen attempt by the
conservative right wing to censor the American public. They are
hand-in-hand with the FCC and the Bush administration in striking down our
freedoms. They don't have your best interests in mind.

If you follow good online security practices, keep your operating system and
applications updated, run a good firewall and above all have some common
sense, you will not have any problems. I have never had a worm, Trojan,
virus or other malware cause any problems on my system in years.

Thanks for the feedback.

But even as a liberal democrat, I don't see what
Homeland Security/FCC/Republicans gain by the statement?

I do my beset at keeping my system secure, but it takes
too much of my time. I have non-techinical friends who
have gotten burned. Who's to protect them. They can't
keep up with all the patches.

Did you ever think why IE and all windows O/S has so much security breach?
Its simply because these are software and O/S that most of the ppl use on a
daily basis. I mean, Microsoft is everywhere!

Hacker will try to break into the most popular software around for sure to
caught the more ppl possible. So even if we all say: "LETS ALL GO TO OPERA
AND LINUX!!! ITS SAFER!!" well that will be a question of time before it
will contain the same amount, if not more, security breach into them.

With this in mind........Just patch ur O/S and software, get a good
firewall, and AntiVirus, do the update on a regular basis and you'll be ok
from about 95% of the attacks.

I'm tired of all the patching... Which browser should I
switch to? Mozilla, Opera, Firefox?

The U.S. government's Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT) is warning of
vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer that could allow
unauthorized access to computers.

The agency recommends that users stop using IE until the problem can be
fixed.

IE for XP should be much more secure when XP SP2 comes out. Till then, I
have switched to Mozilla, which I have used on and off for a while: more
secure; better standards-support; tabbed browsing; no popup ads.

Baloney. Maybe they should have the government do it for them. Not for me
thanks! They can't keep up with the patches? What are they using to connect
to the internet with...telegraph?? Do they also need someone to check their
Tire pressures too? For the love of Pete, if they are that busy, they can
afford a tech team to attend to it for them. If not, and they are that busy,
then they shouldn't have the time to go around clicking on every link under
the sun which will screw up a PC.

I've said it before, numerous websites which offer "tutorials" on safe -hex
have said it, and even Cert has said it. It's as simple as Disabling (or at
least set to Prompt) ActiveX and Active Scripting. What, these people can't
click a link and decide whether to allow the feature or not, or they are too
much in a hurry? Which is it?

Uh-uh... I don't buy it.

Lastly, by eliminating a work load (in the Govt.) but keeping the employees,
and head honchos, they can lollygag around, still collect more payroll taxes
(to pay for the Golf club fees), claim that the economy is just peachy,
assert that unemployment is on the decline, and have more golf partners.

What in the hell does this have to do with the Dept of
(sic) Homeland Security? Those fascists will try to get
their noses into everything.
