Please help me!!!!!!!!
I want to set up a home phone line network.
I have a computer in one room that is running Windows XP
and is connected to a DSL line with an ethernet card and
is connected to the phone line with a 56K modem.
I also have a computer in a diferent room that is running
Windows XP and is connected to the phone line with a 56K
modem and it has a network card in it that is not being
used.
Can I set up a network through the phone line using 56K
modems.
Do I have to buy anything.
Will I still be able to make phone calls.
Can I connect to the network through any phone jack in
the house.
Please help me!!!!!! Tell me exactly what I need to do.
Thanks

You can set up a network using the two 56k modems you
have. You can do so be connecting them via Direct
Connection or using IPX or VPN's. But the problem is
you'll be tieing up your telephone line... So that
sucks :-| So i guess it's better to "normally" connect
them on a LAN using two Ethernet Network Cards. Good luck!

Try out Netgears Powerline solution, works thru the
existing electrical outlets in your house. I use it
without any issues.

A HomePNA network uses the existing telephone lines in the home to connect PCs. I recently setup a
HomePNA system for one of my sister-in-laws and her roommate. They are running Windows Me and Win98
SE respectively. In their case I bought a Linksys HomePNA kit that included two HomePNA interface
cards and the software drivers. I believe it cost about $65 or so off of the internet. The Win Me
box runs ICS so they can share the cable broadband access. It works very well...meaning each can
access the internet and the telephone line in the house is still useable for voice calls, all at the
same time. It saved myself, my nephew and one of my brother-in-laws a lot of work since we did not
need to run 10BaseT in either the attic or under the house in the crawl space...neither desirable in
the heat of the Oklahoma summer...:)
