We are having a problem with our home page also. In
addition, or maybe connected, there's a problem when we
type in a URL without the 'http://' protocol. When we
enter a standard Web address, such as 'www.ebay.com' it
comes up with a C:\searchpage.html page. This page then
inserts itself as our default home page. We can go in to
Internet tools, and change the home page in the usual
way, but as soon as we try to go to another Web page by
typing in the URL (without the protocal specification),
it just pops back to this searchpage.html. The page
itself looks like just a bunch of search categories ..
but there are some categories that I don't particularly
want popping up when I kids are using the computer. I've
searched various settings .. can't figure out where this
thing is coming from. I tried deleting the file; it just
recreates itself. Any ideas??? thanks!

Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out who the culprit(s) is/are with
these tools.

Let AD-Aware Scan your system for advertising Spyware

and:

SpyBot-S&D

p.s Reset the 3rd party browser setting.

Get AdAware and SpyBot and run them both. Keep them up to date.
