Searchpage.html

Our Internet Explorer has been taken over by
C:\Searchpage.html. We cannot change the Home Page to
anything else. If we do it replaces it with
C:\Searchpage.html. We've deleted that document from the
C: drive but it comes right back. We've downloaded all
the Windows Updates, including 832894. We've run the
latest Norton Anit-virus and Spyware Nuker. Everything
is clean. We followed the directions under Knowledge
Base Article 320159. We changed the entry under
Default_Page_URL under
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Main to http:/www.msn.com and when we restarted
the PC it is changed back to C:\Searchpage.html.
Something must be running in the startup that changes the
registry. We can get to ebay, etc. through the
Searchpage home page but we cannot get to MSN.com. I'm
sending this note from another computer. Can you help?

Download, update, and run each of these:

Spybot Search and Destroy
http://www.safer-networking.net/

Lavasoft AdAware
http://www.lavasoft.de

CWSShredder
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html

These three spyware cleaners are all free but consider donating.

I also recommend: http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
This one prevents spyware from being put on your comp. in the first place.
But none of these progs. will catch everything by itsself you need to use
all of them together.

Control Panel > internet options > connections > lan
settings. Is "proxy server" checked? If yes, what is
listed?

Spybot has a feature that will prevent your home page from
being changed.

Kim Kommando recently mentioned start page guard. I have
not used this product.

Best of success.
