Jay,

Here are a couple websites with useful tutorials about file sharing and internet
service sharing:
http://www.cablesense.com/
http://www.homenethelp.com/

What type of internet service do you have? If broadband, or if PPP compatible
dialup, connecting the two computers with a router is the responsible solution.

All computers will be safer. The router will block any malevolent internet
traffic. This further protects the internet, from your becoming infected and
spreading the infection. Particularly with Blaster and Sasser worms, and who
knows what is coming next - without a NAT router, you're a sitting duck.

All computers will run better, with the router blocking the trash infection
traffic.

All computers will run independent of each other. To share your internet
service with a hub, you have to have one computer on whenever you wish to access
the internet from any other. With a router, this will not be the case.

Right now, a NAT router can be bought for the price of 1 - 2 months internet
service.

If you can afford to have more then one computer, you can afford a router. For
many reasons.

Cheers,
Chuck
Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.
