How can I get my windows 2000 computer added to my small
home network? When ever I insert the floppy disc to add
it to my small network, an error occors and says that a
windows 2000 computer cannot be added, only computers
with windows 98, windows 98 SE, windows mellineum, and
windows XP. Why can I not add a windows 2000 computer?
If I can how?

Where did you get this "disc"?

WIN 2K was not designed per se to be a client on ICS when
a WIN 98 machine is the host. You have to manually
configure your TCP/IP NIC card with the IP addresses.

198.168.0.xx for the win 2k machine
Gateway 198.168.0.1
subnet 255.255.255.0
Groupname same on all machines

Now your win 2k machine knows where the host is and should
be able to access the net from the host on your local net.
Normally win 2k machines do not need to be rebooted when
you enter IP's, however I have found it does not hurt.
Remember to run ipconfig from the command prompt to check
your adressing.

Im having a similar problem now, maybe we can help each
other out?
But I need to know what the other computers are running..
yes makes a BIG diff as MS made XP like the Borg.
I have 1 XP and 1 W2K...connected to network hub/router
within a WAN, so far I can connect to the XP but not the
other way around.
I am going to assume you are trying to connect the w2k
with w98 systems?
with a router/hub that creates a WAN or something else?
You are being kind of vague. Actually just tell me whether
the IP for the existing network computers starts with 192
or something else and I can figure out what to tell you
next. I know this is public channel ;) OK also need to
know if other networked systems are XP or not and type of
configuration is working for the others right now.
It will be easy to fix as Windows 2000 excels at network
compatibility.

You can do it manually. Rightclick My Computer, Properties, tab Network
Identification, Properties, fill in the name of the workgroup.
Add all useraccounts that exist on other W2K/XP's in Control Panel, Users
and groups.
