Home networking

After doing a fresh install of XP pro on a new HD, none of the other
computers (XP pro) connected through the router can access this one, but
they can access each other. I can access all other computers on the router
from this one no problem, but when they try to access this one for printer
and file sharing, they get an error:

\\***** is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this
network resource. Contact Administrator of this server to find out if you
have access permissions.
Login Failure: User account restriction. Possible reasons are blank
passwords not allowed, logon hour restrictions, or a policy restriction has
been enforced.

There are no passwords nor were there any before. I have checked the policy
editor and no logon hour restrictions are enabled. I have made the shares
available to everyone. I have made sure that simple file sharing is turned
off. The firewall is disabled. I'm not sure what to check next.

If anyone can provide some insight that I am missing, I will be eternally
grateful.

Thanks for reading this and any help you might provide,

Can you see the new PC install in network places if not have you set the
workgroup correctly.

Neil,
I can see and ping this computer from anywhere on the network. I got it
working this morning by turning the guest account on, but that's not right.
I'm sure it wasn't on before. Checking the other computers on the network,
I find that the guest accounts are on on both of them. Before I did this
clean install of XP, I had hooked up around 10 other computers to the same
network and had no problems. Just ran the wizard and it would work. This
time I don't understand why anything would be different. BTW XP Pro Sp1 with
all updates. At least it is kind of working now.

Are there any potential pitfalls that may arise from having the guest
account turned on? I am using a router with a firewall, if that makes a
difference.

Thanks for responding,
Asymmetric

Not sure about having the guest account turned on I would have thought your
router & firewall would keep your network safe.
I only connect two PCs together directly using a workgroup one is win2000
and the other XP, the XP machine accesses the internet directly and uses ICS
to allow the win2000 machine to connect to the internet. The XP machine
guest account is disabled but I can see the XP printer from the win2000
machine, I can login to my XP profile from the other machine.

sorry I can't help further

That's the way I had mine hooked up before I got the third computer. It
always worked well except that whoever wanted to use the other computer for
the internet had to come down and turn mine on so they could get on. The
router makes it much nicer, and has a built in print server. Thanks for
trying to help me with my little annoyance.

Just in case I answered the worng person;

Check the properties of your Lan connection you probably have the internet
firewall turned on. Uncheck it and you should be ok.
