Home Networking Issues

Jeff

Let's see if I can explain this clearly.

1. I have XP-Pro on my laptop
2. I have XP-Home on my home PC

3. I use my laptop to connect to a domain network at
work. No problems there.

4. I just added a second hardrive to my home pc and want
to connect to it with my laptop and also want to share
the printer connected there, when I'm at home.

5. I have the PCs networked together through a Linksys
router using Cat-5. (we also share the cable modem, works
fine).

6. I ran the Home Network wizard on the XP-Home pc,
seemed to setup find - I can see the network.

7. I 'did not' create a separate network client disk.

8. I did try to run the Network Client from my XP-Pro CD,
and it gave me an error - saying something like "since I
am setup for a domain, it cannot configure the home
network"

9. Even before I ran this, I could see the network from
my laptop - but could not connect "Access Denied"

So the million dollar question is: what do I need to do
to connect? Typically I would think I would need to add a
user to the XP-Home Pc and sign in, but am not sure how
to do that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hello
Go to Network Connections>Disable your Domain Connection>Create a New
Connection>Set the new connection up with your workgroup for home, Enable &
Disable your connections as needed.

First open the Properties of My Network Places, delete or disable all
connections except your internet connection, (all computers). Right click
your IC go to Properties the Local Area Connection Properties will open,
install Client for MS Network, File & Print Sharing, Internet
Protocol(TCP/IP)(on this protocol click Properties select Obtain IP and DNS
Automatically), install NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBios Protocol(this will allow the
firewall to be enabled), click OK. Now back on your Network Connections
click on the left of the page, Setup a Small Home Network, the wizard will
open then just follow the instructions, when you get to the point to Create
a Floppy then do so, then you just run it on the other computer,(insert the
floppy in the other puter open My Computer double click A drive then double
click the link that appears. Be sure to name your Workgroup (not domain) the
same and give each computer a different name.

To hook up Printer sharing just install the printer on the host computer go
to Printer and Faxes right click your printer, then go to Sharing, then set
it to Share then name it, click OK.

Go to the other computer open Printer & Faxes on the left of the page click
add a printer then follow the instructions.

The address to Connect to this printer is \\host computer name\printer
name

Thanks Haus,

Sounds like a plan.

The only problem I have, is that I don't have a floppy
drive on my laptop - will I be able to install/run the
network wizard from my Xp-pro CD?

Thx
