Try this:
- Check if the firewall on your laptop is enabled (could
be caused by the upgrade)
- Check for the same on your home machine.
- try to ping the home machine from the laptop and vice
versa.
Let us know what you find.

I have a strang problem that is probably very easy to
solve. At home I have a computer with Windows XP wired to
a LinkSys broadband (wireless) router. I also have a
laptop from my office with wireless access that I oftern
work with at home.
The wireless connection works fine. In the past I have
been able to run the "Set up a home or small office
network" wizard and my shares and connected printer would
show up on my laptop. I didn't have to make any changes
on my laptop can kept the office DOMAIN and log in
process set up on it alone. Now, all of a sudden (with
recent Windows upgrades?) I cannot locate my home
computer, shares or printer from my laptop.
Shouldn't I be able to see the my home computer from my
laptop? My laptop has a DOMAIN name from my office, my
home computer has a workgroup name set up, they are not
the same. THIS WORKED BEFORE? I have been trying to fix
this for days now...

I have the same configuration, and same problem.
I can not ping either machine from the other.
The firewall is not turned on.

Glad I could help !

JR... well you nailed it. I checked this same thing
multiple times on the "home computer", but neglected to
check this on my connecting laptop - as I had never
set /change that config before.
Once I disabled the firewall through the wireless
network connection, everything is back. Thanks very much!

I have a similar problem.
I have a wireless laptop connected to my Linksys router as is my desktop.
On the desktop I have installed an HP1000 printer and have enabled sharing.
On the laptop, I click to install a printer and have it browse for a
printer.
On the 'Browse for a printer page', I see a tree with my workgroup name
followed by my desktop computer name, bu no printer.
Shouldnt' it appear there? Is there some other setting to make it
shareable?
I am able to share drives.
Thanks.

Hi Francis,
Click "Start" Printers and faxes.
Now right click your printer and select "Sharing"
Select "Share this printer" and give it a name easy to
remember.
That should make this printer appear when you browse for
a printer on your network
Hope it helps !

Yes, I've done all that.
When I look at the printer in my desktop, I see the icon indicating it is
being shared. Also, the radio button is definitely checked indcating it is
being shared, and it has a name.
It just will not show up in the 'select a printer' dialog on the laptop.
Is there some sort of net use command I can use to 'ping' it? When I do a
net use * \\desktopmachine\printer on my laptop it reports that the device
is an unsupported type which leads me to believe it knows it's a printer.

Well, I'm stumped...
Last try:
when you tell your laptop to connect to a printer, don't
use the browser, but try to have it connect to the
\\desktopmachine\printer in the "connect to this printer"
option.
Hope this works...

Well, that worked.
Thanks.
