I have got two desktops and one laptop which I am trying to network. I have
installed all the correct bits and all three can view the internet. Problem

folders I want to share, followed the setup wizard but everytime I click
"view workgroup computers" it says acces denied, contact administrator" well
I am looged on as administrator and all the workgroups are the same. I have
been through all the help and troubleshooter things I can find and can't seem
to fix it. Please Help!!

Since we don't know what versions of XP you have, make identical user
accounts and passwords (don't use blanks) on all machines. Now see if
you can access files.

I am using XP Pro on a Desktop and XP Home on a laptop.

I can access the laptop from the desktop but I can't access the desktop from
the laptop. I keep getting access denied.

1. Make identical user accounts and passwords on each computer.
2. Make sure firewalls are properly configured to allow lan traffic as
Trusted.
3. Make sure you only have one firewall running. Service Pack 2
automatically enables the Windows Firewall. If you are not running a
third-party firewall, go to the Windows Firewall applet in Control
Panel and enable File & Printer Sharing on the Exceptions tab. If you
are using a third-party firewall (and have properly configured it to
allow your lan traffic as Trusted), then turn the Windows Firewall off.

If doing the above doesn't help, here is an excellent network
troubleshooter by MVP Hans-Georg Michna. Go through it carefully and it
will pinpoint the problem area. Then, if you are still having
difficulties, post back to this thread with the results you got from
Mr. Michna's troubleshooter.
