home network with forums login problem

I connected a laptop to a Linskys router for a friend, internet connectivity
was problem free however he cannot log into the forums he frequents, his
original pc will log into these wothout problems and initially i thought he
may be already logged in on this pc and this was causing an error but that is
not the case.
Despite inserting the correct user name and password the result is always
'user name not registered'.
Is this more likely to be a forum bug or a network setting?

If your friend is successfully connecting to the Internet, then his
network settings are fine. Either he is misremembering the username and
password or there is a problem with the site. The site does not care
from where the user is accessing it so it doesn't matter that your
friend is using your connection instead of his own.
