Home network, unable to share folders

I am using a broadband router (INEXQ 4 port) to
access cable from two computers, both on Win2K Pro.
Internet access works fine, but I am unable to share
files or printers. One computer sees the other in the
workgroup (but when trying to access it gives "network
path not found" error), the other one doesn't even list
the former. Trying to search by computer name doesn't
work either (same error). Thanks in advance. Full specs:

* Both machines Win2K Pro SP4 + all latest updates
* Protocols: Client for MS Networks, File and Print
Sharing, TCP/IP
* TCP/IP settings: Automatic IP address/automatic DNS
* Advanced, WINS: Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP
* Same user accounts (admin priviledges) on both machines
* Same workgroup name on both machines
* I have set up shared folders on both machines.
* Router is set for DHCP server, automatic IP address. As
far as I can see (DHCP client list and IP addresses the
problem isn't at the router - anyway, internet works, so..).

Can you ping each computer from the other, by both IP address and by name?

Turn off your firewalls.

Thanks! (And to others who responded). I had turned off ZoneAlarm
(Free), or rather, I had *thought* I did by disabling it from the
startup so I never gave it a second thought. After reading your
response, and on a whim, I started ZoneAlarm and then used "shutdown
ZoneAlarm" option, and it worked! Very strange... I think I will have
to uninstal it completely.

Which brings the matter of (if you don't mind the off topic drift)
what software firewall to use (preferably free) to provide better
secutity and control over what the router provides. Thanks for advance
for any suggestions.

Here is how I have mine set up. See if there is something
you have not mentioned.

Computer 1 is connected via USB (if no USB, then second
nic) to internet cable modem.
Computer 1 has nic (first nic) connected to switch.
computer 1 has ICS enabled on the USB (or nic #2)
connection.
computer 1 automatically assings IP address to nic as
192.168.0.1
computer 1 automatically assings IP address to network.

all computers on network have same workgroup name.

Computer 2 is connected to switch and set for DHCP.
Computer 2 has firewall software with 192.168.0.0 network
trusted.
rebooted computer 2 to assign IP address.
computer 2 automatically assings 192.168.0.1 as gateway.

test computers.....

Computer 2, in RUN type \\computer1\c$ enter. See if you
get the C:\ drive of computer1. If so, your good.

Computer 1, in RUN type \\computer2\c$ enter. See if you
get the C:\ drive of computer2. If so, your good.

Share your printer and try network MY Network Places to
see if you see the printer.

Good Luck
