Home network problems

rayto

I have a network of 2 pcs (PC1 and PC2) at home. PC1 is
connected to the internet via ADSL line and both are
interlinked via an 8 port hub.

I can access the internet from both PCs. However I
cannot access the shared folders on PC1 from the PC2 but
I can do it the other way around, i.e. access \\PC2
\shared from PC1

I have checked the IP settings and ran IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS
as well.

Any ideas?

Ensure that the XP built-in firewall is disabled and
NetBIOS over TCP/IP are enabled on all machines. The XP
built-in firewall is only intended for direct connections
to the Internet. Make sure all other personal firewalls
are disabled or removed while troubleshooting.

The basics is that all machines need to have the same
workgroup name and subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. If the
subnet mask is different, they are on seperate networks.

First of all, do you get all of your settings from a DHCP
server? You can easily find out by opening the command
prompt by clicking Start, Run and type "cmd" (without
quotes) press ENTER or Ok. At the Command Prompt, type
ipconfig/all.

Then you should be able to type "ipconfig/release"
then "ipconfig/renew" to renew your configuration at the
Command Prompt. Otherwise, you'll need to configure them
manually if DHCP is not present.

I am having the same problem in addition to not being
able to connect my second PC to the Internet despite
having enabled ICS in the gateway. I will watch for a
reply to your query, Anonymous.
