Home network is too connected?

We've got only two computers on our home network, using a wired router and
modem. Per instructions I created a 'shared folder' to link them. However,
it seems that even minor changes to the 'server' (computer #1) affects the
2nd PC.

I'm on PC #2, attempting for the past 3 days to run simple spyware and virus
scans. (We have Spybot 4.1 and BitDefender 10). Neither can complete a scan
before freezing up or having the monitor go black. We moved some files around
on PC 1, and PC 2 is freezing at those particular files.

What gives? And can anyone suggest a way to separate the access? If I
really need to see what's on PC 1, I can either go to that computer or open
the shared file; I'm going crazy trying to figure out why I am facing this
'over-accessibility'.

If it matters, we still run Win2K, since it does what we need.

I don't see that "over-accessibility" is the issue. You might look at your
event logs & post more details as to your network configuration, whether
everything is updated/patched fully, whether this problem occurs when you
disconnect your network cable, etc.

So....therefore you posted in a Windows XP group? ;-)
