home network configuration

I need to transfer files from my desktop to my laptop. I have both machines
on a home network using a Linksys router and I have Windows XP Pro on both
machines. I want to set up a shared folder in the laptop and copy files to
that folder from either the desktop or the laptop.

Is there a question in there?

OK, do both computers have connectivity? Can you ping each from the other, by
name?

If so, just setup Simple File Sharing on the two, enable the Guest account, and
share away.
