Holding some cells and sliding others

I seem to recall in an early day spreadsheet or data base having the
capability to stabilize all cells left of a point and the cells right of
that point could be made to slide left one data field at a time allowing you
to continually view the first x number of fields while reviewing the
remaining fields. Does this capability exist in any way in excel or in
access? TIA
 
Hi!

In Excel it's called freeze panes.

Say you wanted to always have column A visible when you scroll to the right.

Select cell B1
Goto Window>Freeze Panes

Say you wanted to always have row 1 visible when you scroll down

Select cell A2
Goto Window>Freeze Panes

Say you wanted to always have column A and row 1 visible when you scroll

Select cell B2
Goto Window>Freeze Panes

In Excel select a cell below and right of where you want the rows/columns to
remain static and Window>Freeze Panes.

B2 selection would freeze row 1 and column A
