When I have tried to install windows Live security and Easy Media Creator 8 I
get an error message that I do not have sufficient permissions for this key.
I have followed every instruction given to crrect this, have even tried a
"Registry Cleaner" to fix it, but nothing works.

1. Any suggestions?
2. Can I delete the key and then rebuild it?
3. What else?

Are you logged in under an account that has administrator access? An administrator account will have access to modify that key but
a user account will not.

Phil,

Verify the registry key Permissions. Make sure that there is no "Deny"
entries set, as it takes precedence over the "Allow" entries.

I followed the instructions to change permissions, try to install the
software and still denied. When I go back to regedit, the permissions are
not set anymore. I had set them to full control but now the check boxes are
empty.

What account are you logged in as? Administrator?

So you set the permission successfully and it changed back? Mighty suspicious. Did it change back right away or did it do it after
you closed Regedit and opened it again?

I changed the permissions on the main key and that allowed the cls key to
remain set. Forgot about the inherited setting. But for some reason the
error keeps coming up. I am logged in as "hp_Administrator" and added
"Administrator" as well just to be sure.

Same problem.

Try creating a temporary administrator account (name it something completely different like your name). Try using that account to
set the permission. If it is some malware that keeps setting it back, then it might be programmed to wipe permissions from any
account with "administrator" in it's name.

I finally found the solution: I went through key by key and set the
permissions for every msxml2 item and that did the trick.

What is unclear now is why all these were not set automatically as
administrator permission.
