Hit counter stops working when default.htm page is edited

Have a custom counter and works fine when setup using Win2k. When I edit the
page (with Frontpage) it's on (I have Winxp) and save, the hit counter stops
working. I must go to the person who has Win2k with Frontpage and ask them
to remove the counter and readd it.

Is this an issue?
 
Are you working directly on the live/remote site or locally and then publishing?
