I've designed a simple website with Frontpage, it's running from my
own computer. It's working fairly well, except for one thing: I can't
do a blessed thing with Frontpage Extensions.
I've downloaded and installed Frontpage Server Extensions from
Microsoft, it's running, I can fiddle with FPSE settings by
right-clicking my website in IIE... But including any feature which
depends on FPE either simply does not work ("You must have Frontpage
Server Extensions installed to use this function") or, as in the case
of the feature I'm most interested in, the hit counter, slows my
website to crawl.
If I install the hit-counter anywhere, load time for any of my pages
jumps from about 0.3 - 2 seconds to about 45 - 90 seconds. The counter
works, it does count hits, but surely it's not supposed to slow the
site down like this???
I've tried uninstalling then reinstallng FPSE, I tried turning off the
firewall, even turning off the viruschecker - no change.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
Failing that... anyone know where one can find a _locally_ executed
freeware hitcounter? I've searched, but can only find millions of
_remote_ hitcounters.
