History won't delete

I'm running windows xp SP2, with, i think, IE6. My problem is when I try to
delete my history via Tools, Internet options, etc., nothing happens,
although i did work up until recently. I can't think of anything i've changed
to cause this. I've tried following advice given to others but i can't see
the wood for the trees to be honest. Any help appreciated.

Thanks for the reply S, I had already tried the steps from that page and
numerous others, I should have said.
Other users on the same PC are fine, when I try and delete the History
Folder a dialogue box appears with "History is a windows system folder and is
required for windows to run properley it cannot be deleted".
My account type is system administrator, I have tried deleting it from other
accounts but access is denied. I even tried deleting my account and it
wouldn't allow me to.
Again, all help appreciated.
