History Sidebar Does Not Display Links

Greetings,

I'm runing Windows 98 and have just upgraded from Internet Explorer 5 to
Internet Explorer 6. When clicking the "History" button in the toolbar, I
get the History sidebar, but no links of visited sites. (Yes, I already
checked "Internet Options", and I've still have the original preferences of
20 days.)

What I do get is a "History" folder with an "index.dat" file, and a
"desktop" with the following information:

[.ShellClassInfo]
ConfirmFileOp=0
CLSID={FF393560-C2A7-11CF-BFF4-444553540000}

What do I need to do to restore the functionality of the History sidebar?
I'm already resigned to the likelihood that IE 6 won't remember my past IE 5
history, but I use the History links all the time when browsing.

Thank you very much for your assistance.

Hi,
History problems can be caused by the ActiveX Control filters in McAfee
AntiVirus. If you disable the "Active X Controls" filter under the Internet
Filters in VirusScan the IE History should work properly.

Or... Your History folder may be damaged.
Free History Eraser from
http://smartprotector.com/eraser/free-history-eraser.htm will delete the
History folder and a new one will be created when you restart.

Or the History folder can be deleted manually:

Hope this helps,

Thank you for responding, Don. I already disabled the ActiveX Controls
filter, but that did not work. I cleaned out the temporary internet files
and history folders using CCleaner, but that also did not work. Any other
possibilites?

Thank you again

Hi,
The History folder may be damaged. Delete it and let Windows create a new
one.

I don't think that CCleaner deletes the History folder.
