My son's history folder is missing and some of the
folders that were inside Windows/Temp , like Temporary
Internet Folder, Cookies Folder, Content.IE5
folder, History, which were all inside the Temp folder
inside the Windows folder.

Can I copy them from my computer and put them in his
or I can't because I'm on a different computer?

I think he just deleted everything in the Temp Folder
which was in the Windows Folder in Explore and must of
deleted everything inside this folder.

Now what?

Thanks,
Ann

Anything in the temp folder is fine to delete and should be deleted
periodically. The windows\temp folder is from win98 or less. The temp folder
in xp is here: C:\Documents and Settings\your user name here\Local
Settings\Temp
History is here: C:\Documents and Settings\your user name here\Local
Settings\History
Temp Int Files: C:\Documents and Settings\your user name here\Local
Settings\Temporary Internet Files

Thanks for answering me.
In his Windows Xp, I went into Explorer and under the
Windows folder, the temp folder was there, history folder
etc, but his are missing. What do I do to get it back for
him. Do I go to the places you told me below and copy
them back to explorer from where they are?

I did find the folders you were talking about, but they
are still missing in Explore/local disk
C:/Windows/history, temp, temporary internet files,
cookies and a few others.

Now when I go to the browser window of internet explorer
6 and I click in the address window the arror to give me
the history of web pages I already visited, my internet
explorer shuts down.

This never happened before I was missing these folders.
Should I maybe reinstall IE 6? If yes, do I first have to
uninstall the old one? How do I get the new one to
install again?

Thanks,
Ann

IE should be looking to the folders I posted for the history and temp int
files. Seems your is looking in the wrong place, the windows temp folder.
You could try reinstalling IE:

You can reinstall IE using the following command line in the run dialog:

rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132
%windir%\Inf\ie.inf

The XP cd may be needed for a re-install of IE.

( watch the word wrap, there is a space between 132 and % )
