History button gone on contacts

Strange behavior today for no apparent reason. I noticed BCM db instance
was shutdown. After starting up manually, I go into contacts or Accounts
and the Form does not have History Button (next to Details button) anymore
and the General form looks like
*local Contacts with Notes: on the bottom right. However, New History Item
button
still exists, but you can't add items because they fail with "BCM could not
complete action or actions" error dialog. So it is like
history db functions are gone or messed up somehow. I removed and
reinstalled BCM and sp1, and no joy. Attaching to other BCM dbs does not
help either. Must be some funky registry entry or something. How to fix or
completely clean BCM before reinstall? Any ideas?

No joy. Had to remove BCM, remove Outlook. Reinstall Outlook, reinstall
BCM, reinstall BCM sp.
