Hijack of IE

B

Brian

No matter how many times and how frequently I run the
spyware program, it keeps detecting a browser hijack on the
Internet Explorer bar. Spyware can't seem to remove it.
I've stopped using Internet Explorer because of this problem

Have you tried other spyware removal programs, Like adaware.
Try running Norton 2005 from another computer (which means take harddrive
out of infected computer and ut into another computer and scan it)

Hello Brian,

I sympathyize with your issue, as I am also experiencing
a similar incident (refer to my post on 04.14.2005).
However, I would not stop using IE just because of this
issue. It seems to be that Microsoft AntiSpyware is
actually performing "too well" and is capturing a
legitmate attempt at changing the windows/browser shell.

I am not a programmer, by any means, rather I am of the
other side of the IT genre, a network
administrator/engineer. I would ask you to join me in
waiting to see what sort of response we can find out. I
am also a Microsoft Registered Partner (OEM Systems
Builder) and will see if any of the other channel
partners have had a similar incident.

ISSUE RESOLVED! After checking into the Advanced Tools >
Browser Restore tool, I found the following entrties that
reflected the addition of the MSN Toolbar Suite (Beta):

1. Search Page
This is the default search engine when you click the
Search button in Internet Explorer.

Current setting: http://g.msn.com/0SEENUS/SAOS01?
FORM=TOOLBR

2. Search Bar
This is the page that will be displayed when you click on
the Search icon in Internet Explorer. The Search bar
provides the ability to store detailed information.

Current setting: http://g.msn.com/0SEENUS/SAOS01?
FORM=TOOLBR

3. Search Page (all users)
This is the default search engine when you click the
Search button in Internet Explorer. This is for all users
of this computer.

Current setting: http://g.msn.com/0SEENUS/SAOS01?
FORM=TOOLBR

4. Search URL
Search URLs are a convenient way to use different
Internet search engines. For example, you might have a
search URL called news that searches online newsgroups.
If you type in a keyord(s) in the address bar to
automatically search online newsgroups for all articles
related to these keywords.

Current setting: http://g.msn.com/0SEENUS/SAOS01?
FORM=TOOLBR

Now the issue I found was that number 2-4 did not have
the correct Restore setting of the MSN Toolbar Suite
(Beta) (i.e. Restore setting to:
http://g.msn.com/0SEENUS/SAOS01?FORM=TOOLBR). Once I
used the Change Restore Setting to a New URL... feature
and entered the "correct" Restore information (Restore
setting to: http://g.msn.com/0SEENUS/SAOS01?FORM=TOOLBR),
on each of the entried listed above (numbers 2-4), then
when I performed a scan, all was at peace in the universe
again!

Please feel free to distribute this information for the
betterment of all afftected with this issue. Also, feel
free to send questions, comments, suggestions, to me via
my Feedback form located at http://www.gmitsllc.com/
