Higher CPU temps with HT

Using XP Pro with a P4 3.0Ghz CPU...

can someone tell me (or point me in the right direction) why my CPU temp is
higher when I disable HyperThreading? IOW, if I disable HT in the BIOS, my
CPU temp increases +5 degrees. Is there a setting in XP that I need to
change when I disable HT?

Since there's a single thread in the cpu doing all the work and if you do
tasks cpu intensive individually, like registry cleaning and maybe playing
games such as q3a etc. the performance without hyperthreading is usually
higher and CPU temps will be consequently greater.

Yes, that makes sense, but I am seeing something different. I am running
an audio app and when HT is enabled I see a little higher (and much more
jumpy) CPU activity, while CPU temps are lower. With HT disabled, the CPU
activity is slightly lower and much more stable, but temps are higher. In
fact, with my machine at an idle, CPU temps are higher with HT disabled.
It just doesn't make any sense to me and left me wondering if I have XP
set up properly, so I was hoping that someone could explain it.
