Well, do you have this 2-3 mins of constant HDD activity after startup?

I never turn any of my machines off unless I have to, however since most
people not using them for work do tend to treat them like the TV set
this nonsense is sure to be a nuisance to many people.

I can download from the internet much faster than my disk drive can fill
a gigabyte of ram? That sound realistic to anybody? I don't think so.

I have exactly the same problem, but it takes around 5-6 minutes (!!) after
logging in until i get a usable desktop. As for Gideon_CC, it turned out that
windows defender and the superfetch service are causing the hdd activity. My
notebook is 2 month old, core2duo 2.0GHz, 2GB Ram and a 5600 RPM Harddisk.
Still not enough for Vista (Business)??? At this point, I got to mention that
this is my company notebook, that's why I have a lot of data and programs on
it (around 100 GB of 160 GB).

I have disabled those 2 services by now, but would like re-enable them.
Anyone got rid of that problem? I can't and won't wait 7 minutes (complete
boot time) until i can start working.

Hello dan1701a,
Ok, do the following and everything will be fine:
1. Open "Task-Manager" ( Run as Administrator )
2. Choose the "Services" tab
3. Now click on the "Services..." button ( bottom )
4. "Services" window is open now and you are in "Services (Local)"
5. Now search in that list for the following: "Superfetch"
6. When you found it press "right-click" on it and choose "Properties"
7. A new window is open now ( called "Superfetch Properties ( Local Computer
)" )
8. Now select the "General" tab and you must to see there "Service Status"
and some buttons like "Start", "Stop", "Pause", "Resume".
9. Choose the "Startup type:" to "Manual" and make the "Service status" to
"Stopped".
10. Apply your add ( Click on Apply Button ) and see if your hard-disk is
used like before.

I am waiting your reply. Thank You,
Bogdan
