There are a growing number of folders named with
guid like names that appear to be related to Windows
updates and patches. They are all off the root folder
and do not allow me to delete them or mark them as hidden.

I want them gone or moved to a Windows subdirectory.
Is there a setting/way to do this?
Thanks,

I'll assume your hard disk is NTFS. Take ownership of the folders.

http://support.microsoft.com/?id=308421

(For Home Edition, you'll need to be in Safe Mode, or be using Doug Knox's
hack).

Once Ownership is taken, you can now edit those folders. I'd advise you to
backup those folders before deleting them, just in case those folders Were
required.
