I have a surveillance program that I would like to have running in the
back-ground, however when minimized it obviously still shows as running in
the taskbar. 1) can I hide the task from the task-bar ? and 2) if not, how
can I change the name of the program/taskbar?

Thanks for any help.

You can try going to Start>Run type: gpedit.msc click Ok. Select
User Configuration>AdminTemplates>Start Menu and Task Bar>Hide Notification
Area>rt click and select Properties>Enabled.

Your reply was appreciated but unfortunately did not help. I still do not
know how to 1) change the name of the program as it reads in the taskbar, but
also 2) your reply did not help hide the program from appearing in the
taskbar. I also tried restarting the computer several times in case the
changes did not take effect until rebooting. Some additional direction would
be much appreciated.

Thanks

If you put a shortcut to the surveillance program in the Startup Folder
then my suggestion should work.
. Find it in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Start
Menu\Programs\Startup, where username is your Windows logon name. Place a
shortcut in that Folder. The surveillance program will open up on startup
and the icon will be placed in the now
hidden notification area. Sounds good to me.
